What can we tell you about this exciting business?

Our technology client is a UK-based entrepreneurial company which develops and markets specialist products in a few technical niches.   Over 90% of sales are outside Europe, with customers in 160 countries.  Its flagship product, is the overwhelming world leader in it’s market, and is helping to transform how it’s clients operate around the world, which is very motivating for people in the business.

The company’s HQ is in Coventry, and it has satellite offices in the US and Kuala Lumpur – both set for expansion, in particular KL.

A gradual shift in market focus has left this business on the brink of explosive growth. Meanwhile, the organisation is going through a period of change.  Driven by a combination of the shift in the business drivers and a generational transition / re-building period, the company is now looking to significantly increase its talent pool:

If expected growth occurs, headcount is likely to rise from the current c.30 to the 45-60 range by end 2021, and maybe beyond.

Past recruitment and development of talent has been extremely commendable, but the aim now is to do better, resulting in more individuals whose performance is excellent, rather than good or very good.

Your focus will be to:

  • Increase the average level of talent recruited
  • Improve the success rate of recruitment: via better recruitment activity; by beefing up development.
  • Fit talent more closely to purpose by diversifying the basis of employment – more part-time, more fixed-term/interim roles

The scale of this talent-building task now makes the recruitment of a high performance talent acquisition and development manager a priority for the business.

Good performance is not acceptable; it must be excellent.  The company has a sophisticated Performance Management framework, a flat management structure and a progressive culture.  The emphasis is on flexible team-working and achieving self-management by individuals and teams.  Most of the workforce is actively involved in a portfolio of business improvement tasks and projects alongside their core operational role.  There is heavy investment in training and personal development.

However, with new business challenges and generational change in personnel with some loss of capability, there is a need to re-invigorate in some areas and to drive excellence to the next level.

Who are we looking for?

This role straddles a focus on direct sourcing activity (particularly in the first 12 months of the role) and will also be responsible for talent development activities across this business. To this end, you should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of helping previous employers to directly source the very best talent available. You will also have experience of designing and developing first-class learning & development intervientions. This role focuses across the full remit of talent management activities from attraction, onboarding, development and succession planning (as well as performance management).

We would like to see people that have worked in a technology environment and if you have exposure to working with international client groups, this would certainly be a bonus.

We recently placed an advert for a talent acquisition specialist for a 12 month fixed term contract. This client is open minded about who they hire and it may be that they bring someone in to focus on hiring people over the next year and then hire someone to focus on talent development. If the right person is out there that combines these two skill-sets and they are right for the business then they are happy to hire someone permanently straight away.
